The day restricts with the sun interrogating my weak eyes
But the moon gives off a glow and can’t see as far as her brother
When millions of others are deep in sleep
I break out and drive
The air is cool, the breeze is slight, it’s a cold night
As I head up the hills I think of you
Art is ringing through the speakers and in my mind
The only lights are from the street lamps and cars
The lights of the controls reflect in my eyes
I reach the peak, the empty parking lot
A good friend joins and smoke ascends to the stars
Stars that we simply sit below and watch
Yet that was a winter of years past
And now I sit summers later remembering all of them
Mourning exhausts but reminiscing makes you appreciate
For such a partnership to break so easily
For love not to come through and save us
For love becoming the very thing that I can blame
And continue to not see how we play with her
And how we aren’t aware of much of anything
When love lurks on by and plays a game of possession.
What more can I ask for?
It was a good time.
Just because something is good, it doesn’t mean it stays
In our intersection of time and space,
I fell for time’s distraction
And when I saw that she had no space
It was over.
